Description
Background

Cryptocoryne × willisii is a naturally occurring hybrid from Sri Lanka, often formed between Cryptocoryne walkeri and Cryptocoryne beckettii. It develops slender, wavy green leaves that form dense rosettes, making it suitable for both foreground and midground use. Like other Crypts, it is highly adaptable, tolerating low light and a wide range of water conditions, which makes it an excellent choice for beginners and low-tech aquariums. Its compact form and slow but steady growth make it easy to manage in aquascapes.

Cryptocoryne × willisii works beautifully as a foreground to midground filler. Its slender leaves contrast well with carpeting plants and larger-leaved Crypts, while its bushy growth adds natural texture to aquascapes. Ideal for Nature, jungle, and low-maintenance layouts.

Directions

Plant the crypt directly into the substrate. They can be planted closely to form a bush. Cryptocorynes go through a melt phase while converting from emerged plant. In some cases, aquarists trim away emersed leaves, leaving the rhizomes and roots before planting, this prevents the melted leaves from increasing waste organics in the tank. Roots can be trimmed shorter too for ease of planting. Enhanced lighting and CO₂ could bring out the subtle bronze tones. It is a heavy root feeder, root tabs or rich aquasoil is helpful for its growth. It spreads via runners, spread and replant when a dense clump has formed.
