Description
Background

Native to the Philippines, Cryptocoryne Usteriana is one of the largest Cryptocoryne species used in aquascaping. Its long, undulating leaves display shades of green, bronze, and reddish hues depending on conditions. With strong lighting and good fertilization, the undersides often show a striking deep red coloration. Hardy and adaptable, it is a low-maintenance rooted plant that thrives in a wide range of aquarium setups, making it popular in large tanks and natural aquascapes.

An excellent background plant for large aquariums, adding dramatic height and bold leaf texture. Its reddish tones provide contrast to green crypts and carpeting plants, making it ideal for nature-style aquascapes or as a statement feature in planted displays.

Directions

Plant the crypt directly into the substrate. They can be planted closely to form a bush. Cryptocorynes go through a melt phase while converting from emerged plant. In some cases, aquarists trim away emersed leaves, leaving the rhizomes and roots before planting, this prevents the melted leaves from increasing waste organics in the tank. Roots can be trimmed shorter too for ease of planting. Moderate lighting and CO₂ enhances the bronze tones. It is a heavy root feeder, root tabs or rich aquasoil is helpful for its growth. It spreads via runners, spread and replant when a dense clump has formed.
