Description
Background

Lagenandra meeboldii ‘Red’ is a distinctive rosette plant closely related to Cryptocoryne, with its broad leaves and rich red to bronze hues. It makes an excellent midground focal plant, adding bold texture and colour contrast to planted aquariums.

Growth is slow to moderate, and it prefers a nutrient-rich substrate with stable water conditions. Low to medium lighting is sufficient, though stronger light will enhance leaf colouration. CO₂ is not essential but will support healthier, more vibrant growth. Like crypts, Lagenandra may shed older leaves when introduced to a new aquarium, a natural adaptation process. Once established, it is a hardy plant.

Directions

Plant directly into the substrate, and ensure that extensive root network is buried properly. There may be a transitional phase were new leaves require time to grow, and the plant needs to become settled.

Higher lighting and CO₂ greatly enhances the growth. It is a heavy root feeder, so root tabs or rich aquasoil is helpful for stronger growth. As the plant matures it will naturally split and produce daughter plants. Once large enough, remove daughter plants and replant.
