Description
Background

Rotala Rotundifolia ‘Blood Red’ is a fast-growing stem plant and a long-time favourite in planted aquariums. It is highly adaptable and tolerates a wide range of water parameters, making it suitable for beginners and experienced aquascapers alike. The plant can grow well without CO₂ after an acclimatisation period, but stronger lighting and CO₂ injection will greatly improve density and red colouration.

As a stem plant, it grows continuously toward the light and can easily reach the surface in taller aquariums. In high light with space, stems may creep and grow horizontally, while in crowded layouts they grow more vertically.

Directions

Plant the stems closely in substrate to create a bushy effect while allowing the plant to grow without shading each other. High light, rich and stable nutrients and CO₂ will enhance its deep red tones.

Cut healthy tops and replant, and lower nodes will sprout side shoots. Cutting will also promote more vigorous growth.
