Description
Background

Homalomena sp. ‘Broad Cuneate’ is a distinctive broad-leaf plant with thick foliage and subtle reddish petioles. When grown submerged, leaves remain firm and slightly waxy with a defined, cuneate shape.

As with many aroid-type aquatic plants, some transition melt may occur if originally grown emersed. Stable parameters and patient monitoring during the first few weeks are essential.

Placed in the midground, it acts as a visual anchor between carpeting plants and taller stems. Its bold leaf structure pairs particularly well with fine Rotala or Limnophila groupings.

It is somewhat similar to Anubias species with large leaves and rhizomes. Moderate lighting is enough for stable grown and no CO₂ is required. As with other aroid species, initial adaptation from emersed growth will occur over time. New submerged leaves will emerge suited to underwater conditions once the plant is stable.

Directions

Attach the plant to hardscape such as driftwood or rocks or plant in substrate, allowing the rhizome to be exposed to flowing water. This plant is well-suited for medium-light set ups and prefers not being shaded by other plants.

To propagate, cut the rhizome with at least three leaves and reattach it to hardscape.
