Description
Background

Anubias ‘Var King’ is a large and highly sought-after variegated Anubias, known for its striking white marbling across broad, deep green leaves. Its impressive size and unique appearance make it one of the most desirable collector plants in the hobby. Despite its rarity, it retains the hardy nature typical of the Anubias genus, allowing it to tolerate a wide range of water parameters.

Compared to other variegated varieties such as Anubias ‘Pinto’ or Anubias ‘Stardust’, ‘Var King’ grows significantly larger and is generally more robust. Mature plants can easily reach 30 cm or more in height, with older specimens becoming even more substantial over time.

The white variegation tends to become more pronounced under stronger lighting and stable aquarium conditions. While it can grow without CO₂ injection, the addition of CO₂ and regular fertilisation will encourage faster development and larger leaves.

It should be used a centrepiece for an aquarium and placed in the midground on display for all.

Directions

Like all Anubias, ‘Var King’ can either be attached hardscape such as driftwood or rocks or planted in substrate. For best results, allow the rhizome to be exposed to flowing water. This plant is suitable for low-light set ups although better variegation can be achieved with higher light.

To propagate, cut the rhizome with at least three leaves and place cutting in substrate or reattach to hardscape.
