Anubias afzelii - Plant

Anubias afzelii is a large aquarium plant with long, narrow leaves that grow taller than most Anubias varieties. It is a staple plant in the hobby as it produces nice leaf shape and size in the aquarium. Its leaves grow vertically and will often breach the surface.

The plant grows from a thick rhizome and should be attached to wood or stone. Growth is slow but steady, and leaves are firm and resistant to damage. Due to its size, it is better suited to medium and larger aquariums. Low to moderate lighting is recommended. CO₂ is not required. Stable conditions and controlled lighting help keep leaves free from algae.

Attach the plant to hardscape such as driftwood or rocks or plant in substrate, allowing the rhizome to be exposed to flowing water. This plant is well-suited for low-light set ups and does not mind being shaded by other plants.

To propagate, cut the rhizome with at least three leaves and reattach it to hardscape.
