Description
Background

Cryptocoryne crispatula var. balansae is a distinctive species known for its long, narrow, gently wavy leaves. Its leaves appear with a hammered or crimped look, making it very unique. It is well suited for background placement, particularly in nature-style and biotope-inspired layouts.

Like most crypts, it is a root-feeding plant and benefits from nutrient-rich substrates and the use of root tabs. Growth is moderate, and some leaves may experience a transition period. It tolerates low to medium lighting and does not require CO₂, although supplementation will support stronger growth and leaf development. Once established, Cryptocoryne crispatula is hardy, stable, and low maintenance, making it a reliable choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists.

Directions

Plant the crypt directly into the substrate. They can be planted closely to form a bush. Roots can be trimmed shorter too for ease of planting.

Enhanced lighting and CO₂ will grow a stronger and larger plant. It is a heavy root feeder, so root tabs or rich aquasoil are helpful for growth. It will naturally propagate and spread via runners. Remove daughter plants when large enough to replant.
