Description
Background

Bolbitis heteroclita ‘Asiatica’ is a rare aquatic fern with elongated, gently arching fronds and subtle texture. It has a classic fern appearance, with large kite shaped leaves. Compared to Bolbitis heudelotii, Asiatica does not have segmented leaf structure but instead whole and intact form.

When attached to wood or rock, it develops layered foliage that softens hardscape transitions while maintaining a natural forest-like feel. Under medium lighting and stable nutrients, growth is steady and predictable. CO₂ supplementation enhances frond size and density, though it can adapt to balanced low-tech systems.

Bolbitis heteroclita ‘Asiatica’ excels in midground placements where it creates movement and soft contrast against stone textures.

Directions

Attach the plant to hardscape such as driftwood or rocks, allowing the rhizome to be exposed to flowing water. This plant is well-suited for low-light set ups and does not mind being shaded by other plants.

To propagate, split a bunch off the mother plant near the base. The new bunch can be grown as a completely new plant and positioned where desired.
