Description
Background

Fissidens ‘Mini’ is a very small and uncommon aquarium moss with feather-like growth and deep green colouration. Its compact structure allows it to form dense carpets across hardscape, making it especially popular for creating a strong sense of scale in aquascaping layouts.

Compared to more common mosses such as Java Moss, Fissidens ‘Mini’ grows much more compact and orderly, with less sprawling and messier growth. It is also smaller than standard Fissidens species, making it ideal for nano aquariums or intricate layouts.

This moss is not particularly demanding and can be grown in low-tech setups without CO2, though growth will be slower. With higher lighting, CO2 and regular fertilisation, it will develop fuller, denser cushions with richer colour.

Directions

Attach Fissidens ‘Mini’ to hardscape such as wood or stone using thread or aquarium-safe glue. Do not bury it in substrate. Place in areas with gentle flow to prevent debris build-up.

Low to medium lighting is sufficient, though higher light and CO2 will promote denser growth. Keep the moss moist during planting and ensure it is securely fixed in place. Trim lightly over time to maintain a compact carpet and encourage new growth.
