Description
Background

Fissidens 'Nobilis' is a premium aquarium moss renowned for its large feather-like fronds and emerald green colour. It grows in layers which creates a very natural appearance that makes it popular in high-end aquascapes. It is similar to F. fontanus but has much larger fronds (1cm long), almost resembling an underwater fern. Its compact growth also helps create a strong sense of scale and detail within aquascaping layouts.

It is relatively slow growing and benefits from stable aquarium conditions. While it can grow in low-tech setups, stable CO₂ injection, good flow, and regular fertilisation will encourage denser growth and richer colouration. Like most aquarium mosses, it is best attached to hardscape rather than planted directly into substrate.

Because of its slower growth and dense structure, gentle water movement is important to prevent debris accumulation and maintain healthy clean fronds over time.

Directions

Attach to hardscape such as wood or stone using thread or aquarium-safe glue. Do not bury it in substrate. Place in areas with gentle flow to prevent debris build-up.

Low to medium lighting is sufficient, though higher light and CO2 will promote denser growth. Keep the moss moist during planting and ensure it is securely fixed in place. Trim lightly over time to maintain a compact carpet and encourage new growth.
