Description
Background

Bucephalandra 'Melawi Pink' is a relatively newer species of epiphyte plant, predominantly green but develops pink variegation. Under stable aquarium conditions and stronger lighting, the variegation is stronger. It has compact leaves and slow creeping rhizome growth allow it to fit easily into smaller aquariums.

It is suitable for low-tech aquariums but develops stronger colouration, healthier leaves, and faster growth when provided with stable CO₂ and regular fertilisation. As a slow-growing epiphyte, it requires very little trimming and remains tidy over long periods.

Bucephalandra plants can occasionally melt when introduced into new aquariums, particularly when transitioning from emersed growth. Stable water parameters and patience will encourage healthy submerged growth to develop over time.

Directions

Plant in substrate or attach the plant to hardscape such as driftwood or rocks, allowing the rhizome to be exposed to flowing water. This plant is well-suited for low-tech set ups, but an RGB light will dramatically help to bring out colouration of the leaves. A good balance of light and nutrients is important to control algae growth on this plant.

To propagate, cut the rhizome with at least three leaves replant.
