Description
Background

Bucephalandra 'Mini Red' is an extra small epiphyte with colourful green/blue leaves and great leaf shape. Extra small Bucephalandra are far less common than standard sizes. It resembles a chilli plant and produces colourful red leaves when grown under water. It spreads via a creeping to ascending rhizome and branches readily, forming attractive clumps.

Best placed in the foreground due to its small size, its unique leaf colour contrasts beautifully with hardscape, especially driftwood. Excellent in Nature-style, jungle-inspired, or paludarium layouts, especially on wood or rock anchors.

Directions

Plant in substrate or attach the plant to hardscape such as driftwood or rocks, allowing the rhizome to be exposed to flowing water. This plant is well-suited for low-tech set ups, but an RGB light will dramatically help to bring out colouration of the leaves.

A good balance of light and nutrients is important to control algae growth on this plant. Bucephalandra prefer lower fertilisation levels, as they are susceptible to over-fertilisation. They also prefer lower levels of light.

To propagate, cut the rhizome with at least three leaves replant.
