Description
Background

Eriocaulon cuspidatum is a stunning species similar in appearance to a Bromeliad with its bright green blade-like leaves growing and spiralling outwards from a central crown. It is extremely rare, and has only recently reappeared in the hobby, making it one of the most sought-after species.

Compared to other Eriocaulons, it is much larger with thicker leaves. Its leaves are very spongy and delicate, and therefore requires careful handling during planting and trimming. Best placed in the midground to be on display, it brings a lush aesthetic to any aquarium and is a real showstopper. Perfect for avid enthusiasts looking for a centrepiece, or a collector of rare and interesting plants.

It prefers higher light but can grow perfectly fine in medium levels. Similarly, it can grow well with average levels of CO2 injection. The main guarantee of success is to ensure there is a rich substrate with plenty of root fertilisation.

Directions

Like most Eriocaulons, it prefers soft and slightly acidic water with high light, CO2, and nutrient-rich aqua soil. It is a heavy root feeder, so root tabs will be beneficial. It is not super sensitive to fluctuations in water parameters, and relatively hardy for a rare plant.

Plant deep into substrate, since the plant has high buoyancy and is prone to uprooting. A weight may need to be added to the roots if uprooting problems persist. Be careful with its leaves as they are very brittle and have a tendency to snap.
