Description
Background

Sagittaria sp. ‘Giant Red’ is a rare grass-like aquatic plant with wide, blade-shaped leaves. This stemless, rhizomatous species produces ribbon-like leaves when grown fully submerged. Due to size it is best suited to medium and large tanks, although it can also be used in smaller aquariums with regular trimming.

Under standard lighting the leaves are green, but turn red when high lighting is introduced. To achieve a deeper red colouration we recommend to opt for higher lighting (100+ PAR).

It works well as a mid-ground specimen when planted individually, or as a bold background accent. The broader leaves add welcome variation in leaf shape and structure, helping to create a more natural and dynamic aquascape.

Directions

Plant directly into nutrient rich substrate. Brighter light and CO₂ will enhance its growth. A complete supply of macro and micronutrients via the substrate and/or the water column ensures good growth. Root tabs and good fertilisation however, will support faster growth of plant.

Propagation occurs through unique adventitious plantlets that form on mother plant, which can be cut and replanted once roots develop.
