Description
Background

Echinodorus ‘Aflame’ is a bold and colourful sword plant, somewhat difficult to find. It unlike any other Echinodorus due to its intense red to burgundy leaves that is not found on any other plant. It is ideal as a centrepiece plant for planted aquariums.

Compared to more traditional green Amazon swords, ‘Aflame’ develops much richer red tones and stronger visual contrast, particularly under higher lighting and nutrient-rich conditions. It also tends to produce long narrow leaves, once again going against typical Echinodorus.

Like most sword plants, Echinodorus ‘Aflame’ is primarily a root feeder and performs best in nutrient-rich substrate or with regular root tab supplementation. Medium to high lighting helps maintain strong red colouration, while injected CO₂ and stable fertilisation encourage faster growth, larger leaves, and healthier overall development.

Directions

Plant directly into substrate with the roots fully buried while keeping the crown just above substrate level. Nutrient-rich aquasoil is ideal, though sand or gravel can also be used with regular root tabs.

Position it in the midground, allowing enough room for the leaves to spread. Remove any damaged outer leaves before planting and maintain stable fertiliser and water conditions while the plant establishes.
