Description
Background

Hemianthus micranthemoides ‘Platinum’ is an exceptionally rare and highly sought-after stem plant, prized for its white foliage. It is a variegated form of Hemianthus micranthemoides and offers a unique appearance unlike almost any other aquarium plant available.

The plant retains the fine leaf structure and compact growth habit of regular Hemianthus micranthemoides but stands out due to its bright white tones. When grown in strong lighting, the leaves develop the cleanest and brightest colouration, creating dramatic contrast against darker greens, reds, and hardscape materials.

Its compact growth makes it suitable for the foreground or midground, where it can be trimmed into dense bushes or low groups. When maintained properly, the plant develops a soft appearance that adds an entirely different texture and brightness to planted aquariums.

Directions

Separate stems and plant individually into nutrient-rich substrate using tweezers, spacing them slightly apart to allow light to reach all parts of the plant. Position in the foreground or midground.

It grows faster and taller in lower lighting although with a greener hue. In high lighting it grows more slowly but exceptionally white. Stable CO₂ injection, and regular fertilisation can help to maintain healthy growth and bright white foliage. Trim regularly to encourage bushier growth and prevent lower sections from becoming shaded.
