Description
Background

Anubias barteri var. barteri is a classic and extremely hardy aquarium plant, with broad, dark green leaves and slow, steady growth. It is a rhizome plant and can be attached to rocks or driftwood as well as being planted in substrate.

This species thrives in low to medium lighting and does not require CO₂, making it ideal for beginners and low-tech aquariums. Its tough leaves are resistant to grazing, making it suitable for tanks with larger or herbivorous fish.

Growth is slow, but the plant is very long-lived and requires minimal maintenance. Anubias barteri var. barteri works well in the midground or as a feature plant and provides a natural look in any planted aquarium.

Directions

Attach the plant to hardscape such as driftwood or rocks, allowing the rhizome to be exposed to flowing water. Alternatively, plant roots into substrate. This plant is well-suited for low-light set ups and does not mind being shaded by other plants.

To propagate, cut the rhizome with at least three leaves and replant into substrate or secure to hardscape. New leaves and roots will begin to develop and grow into a new plant.
