Description
Background

Ludwigia glandulosa is a rare and highly ornamental stem plant native to North America, where it grows in wetlands and shallow waters. In aquariums, it is admired for its intense burgundy to deep purple leaves, which provide a dramatic contrast against green plants, making it a centerpiece in Dutch and Nature-style aquascapes.

Ludwigia glandulosa is best used as a background focal plant, where its intense red-purple coloration contrasts beautifully with green or light-colored species. It is especially suited for Dutch-style layouts, where its upright stems can be grouped for a dramatic color block, or in Nature aquascapes, where it adds depth and richness to the midground.

Directions

Plant the stems in small groups to create a bushy effect in the tank. Weaker light will cause the shaded leaves to shed. Strong light, stable CO₂ and fertilisation promotes healthy, robust and colourful growth. Cut healthy tops and replant, and lower nodes will sprout side shoots readily. Regular topping and replanting maintains bushy form and prevents legginess.
