Description
Background

Micranthemum tweediei 'Monte Carlo' is a foreground carpeting plant from South America, often chosen as a more forgiving alternative to HC Cuba. Its small, round, bright green leaves spread via runners across the substrate, forming a lush, natural carpet. Unlike HC Cuba, Monte Carlo tolerates lower light and CO₂ requirements, making it a favorite among both beginners and seasoned aquascapers who want a reliable, fast-growing carpet plant.

Monte Carlo is an ideal foreground carpet plant, providing a lush, soft green base that works well in Nature-style and Iwagumi aquascapes. It can also be attached onto hardsacpe, forming a cascading effect, or even be used to create underwater 'trees' by acttaching it onto wood.

Directions

Separate the plant into small groups, and plant them 2 - 3cm apart for faster carpeting. It can also be attached to hardscape to form a cascading effect. Once it is rooted, it carpets quickly. Although it can be grown without CO₂ supplementation, some CO₂ injection and good fertilisation contributes to healthy and compact growth. Regular trimming is required to promote lateral growth and prevent shaded leaves to rot.
