Description
Background

Hygrophila Sp. ‘Brown’ is a robust and rare stem plant known for its purple to red leaves and clustered growth. Its leaves are textured along the edges with veins coursing through the centre. Unlike most stem plants, this plant does not grow directly upwards, but instead prefers to shoot off sideways.

It grows well in low to medium light and is highly adaptable, making it suitable for both beginner and experienced aquarists. CO₂ is not essential but will promote denser growth and healthier foliage. Regular trimming helps maintain shape and encourages side shoots for a fuller appearance.

Directions

Plant the stems in a bunch into the substrate. Once established, the plant will grow outwards quickly. This plant can tolerate some shading, and is flexible in terms of placement. A steady source of light and nutrients will be sufficient to grow it well. Higher light will bring out more red colouration.

To propagate, cut healthy tops and replant, and lower nodes will sprout side shoots readily.
