Description
Background

Anubias ‘Emerald Round’ is unlike any other Anubias, easily recognisable by its large round, almost perfectly circular leaves held on long stalks. Its distinctive shape almost resembles Echinodorus (Amazon Swords), making it an exceptional focal point in planted aquariums and aquascapes.

Compared to traditional Anubias varieties such as nana or barteri, ‘Emerald Round’ has much broader and rounder foliage with a far more unusual leaf shape. The long stems allow the leaves to stand prominently above surrounding plants and hardscape, creating depth and strong visual contrast within the aquarium.

Like other Anubias species, ‘Emerald Round’ is hardy and adaptable, suitable for both low-tech and high-tech aquariums. It grows slowly from a horizontal rhizome and should be attached to wood or stone rather than planted into substrate. While it does not require CO₂, stable fertilisation and added CO₂ can improve leaf size, growth speed, and overall health.

Directions

Attach Anubias 'Emerald Round' to driftwood, rocks, or other hardscape using thread or aquarium-safe glue. Do not bury the rhizome in substrate, as this can cause the plant to rot. Place it in low to medium lighting with gentle to moderate water flow. CO₂ is optional but can improve growth and leaf development.

Dose liquid fertilisers regularly for best long-term health and remove older leaves as needed. Stable water conditions and shaded placement will help minimise algae forming on the slow-growing leaves.

To propagate, cut the rhizome with at least three leaves and reattach it to hardscape.
