Description
Background

Aponogeton natans is a popular bulb plant with long leaf stems that end with oval leaves. Native to South Asia, it develops flowing green foliage that adds movement and a natural appearance to planted aquariums. The plant grows from a bulb and can produce large leaves that arch outward towards the surface. Mature leaves may reach considerable lengths, making it particularly suitable for nature-style and jungle aquascapes.

Growth is very fast once established, especially in nutrient-rich substrate with stable conditions. Like many bulb plants, Aponogeton natans may occasionally enter a dormant phase where older leaves die back before new growth emerges. This is a natural process and the bulb should be left in place, as healthy new leaves often return after a short resting period. It is a very undemanding and easy to grow species.

Directions

Plant half of the bulb into the substrate. Avoid burying too deep to avoid bulb rot. Try to choose a permanent placement for the plant, frequent relocation will slow down plant development. Several plants will grow from the bulb at the base, which can be separated and replanted when large enough.
