Description
Background

Bolbitis heteroclita ‘Difformis’ is a rare and compact aquatic fern known for its intricate, slightly ruffled leaf structure. Unlike the larger Bolbitis heudelotii, this species remains smaller and more versatile for midground hardscape placement. It tends to display more finely divided leaf texture and a slightly more compact appearance due to its denser growth.

When attached to wood or stone, it produces layered fronds that create natural depth and soft movement in aquascapes. Growth is moderate under medium light, it can adapt to low-tech setups and is a hardy plant tolerant of a range of water parameters.

Bolbitis heteroclita ‘Difformis’ works particularly well in Nature-style layouts where textured greenery softens stone structures.

Directions

Attach the plant to hardscape such as driftwood or rocks, allowing the rhizome to be exposed to flowing water. This plant is well-suited for low-light set ups and does not mind being shaded by other plants.

To propagate, split a bunch off the mother plant near the base. The new bunch can be grown as a completely new plant and positioned where desired.
