Bucephalandra 'Helena Long Leaf' - Rare Plant

Bucephalandra ‘Helena Long Leaf’ is a premium plant variety distinguished by its elongated round leaf shape and great colouration. Its noticeably long, narrow leaves give established plants a different shape and texture from other Bucephalandra varieties.

The leaves develop along a creeping rhizome and form attractive, closely arranged clusters as the plant matures. Depending on growing conditions and viewing angle, the foliage can display dark blue, blue-green and subtle purple tones, complemented by the characteristic metallic sheen associated with high-quality Bucephalandra.

Like most Bucephalandra, growth is slow and steady. It performs well under low to moderate lighting and does not require injected CO₂, although stable CO₂ and regular fertilisation can encourage stronger growth and healthier foliage. Avoid excessive lighting or unstable conditions, as algae can readily establish on its slow-growing leaves.

Plant in substrate or attach the plant to hardscape such as driftwood or rocks, allowing the rhizome to be exposed to flowing water. This plant is well-suited for low-tech set ups, but an RGB light will dramatically help to bring out colouration of the leaves.

A good balance of light and nutrients is important to control algae growth on this plant. Bucephalandra prefer lower fertilisation levels, as they are susceptible to over-fertilisation. They also prefer lower levels of light. CO2 injection is not essential but will help promote growth and health.

To propagate, cut the rhizome with at least three leaves and replant.
