Description
Background

Cryptocoryne sp. ‘Pink Flamingo’ is one of the most sought-after pink aquarium plants even after years of being in the hobby. It is prized for its soft blush pink leaves and compact rosette growth. Its unusual colouration makes it a standout feature in planted aquariums, particularly when contrasted against darker green plants, wood, or stone hardscape.

Compared to standard Cryptocoryne species such as wendtii Green or Brown, ‘Pink Flamingo’ is far more vibrant and decorative, though also slightly more demanding. The leaves remain relatively small and compact, making it ideal for foreground or midground placement in nano and medium-sized aquascapes. Under stronger lighting and stable conditions, the pink tones become more intense, while lower light can result in paler growth and reduced colouration.

Like most Cryptocoryne species, it feeds heavily through its roots. Nutrient-rich substrate or regular root tab supplementation is strongly recommended to support healthy growth and maintain colour. While it can survive without CO₂, injected CO₂ and stable fertilisation significantly improve growth speed and size.

Directions

Plant the crypt directly into the substrate. They can be planted closely to form a bush. Cryptocorynes can go through a melt phase while converting from emerged plant. Roots can be trimmed shorter too for ease of planting.

Moderate lighting and CO₂ greatly enhances the growth. It is a heavy root feeder, so root tabs or rich aquasoil is helpful for stronger growth. It spreads via runners, and can be split and replanted when a dense clump has formed.
