Description
Background

Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Tropica’ is a compact and highly attractive Cryptocoryne variety known for its richly textured leaves and warm brown, bronze and olive-green colouration. Its relatively low growth and dense rosette form make it particularly useful for adding natural texture and darker tones to the foreground and midground of planted aquariums.

The leaves develop a distinctive hammered or crinkled surface with gently undulating edges, giving mature plants plenty of character despite their relatively small size. Once established, individual rosettes gradually produce new plants around their base, eventually developing into attractive dense groups.

Compared with Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Green’ and ‘Brown’, ‘Tropica’ generally remains smaller and more compact, with particularly pronounced leaf texture. Like other Cryptocoryne wendtii varieties, ‘Tropica’ is exceptionally adaptable and performs well across a broad range of water conditions.

Directions

Plant Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Tropica’ directly into the substrate, keeping the crown above the substrate surface while covering the roots securely. Provide low to moderate lighting and allow the plant time to establish without frequent repositioning. A nutrient-rich substrate or regular root tabs are recommended, as Cryptocoryne feed strongly through their roots. CO₂ injection is not required but can improve growth and density.

Some older leaves may melt after planting as the plant adapts; leave the healthy root system in place for new growth to emerge. Remove damaged leaves from the base and allow new plantlets to gradually form a dense group.
