Description
Background

Eriocaulon ‘Vietnam Variegated’ is a rare variant of Eriocaulon 'Vietnam' only recently introduced into the hobby. It is a rosette plant with narrow green leaves marked with pale cream to white variegation, with some leaves being completely white. Some have referred to it as an 'underwater spider plant'. It is super distinctive, and perfect in the foreground.

The plant forms a compact rosette of slender leaves that radiate outward from the centre, creating a clean, star-like appearance. Under strong lighting, the contrast between the green and white sections becomes more pronounced. However, like many variegated plants, it can be more demanding due to the reduced chlorophyll in its leaves. Stable conditions are especially important to keep the plant healthy and maintain its variegation.

This species is a very hardy Eriocaulon and therefore tolerant of a range of water conditions - it is not as fussy as many others which require softer water and high CO2.

Directions

Plant directly into nutrient-rich aquasoil using tweezers, ensuring the roots are buried while the crown remains above the substrate. Position the plant in the foreground or midground with enough space around it for the rosette to develop evenly. Stronger light and CO₂ injection will support healthier growth and maintain clear variegation. Remove any damaged outer leaves occasionally to keep the plant healthy and tidy.

It will naturally grow new crowns and split into daughters plants over time. To propagate simply remove these daughter plants once large enough and replant. It grows outwards and its footprint size will increase if left undisturbed.
