Description
Background

Hemianthus micranthemoides, commonly known as Pearl Weed, is a highly versatile aquarium plant with small bright green leaves and dense branching growth. Native to North America, this fast-growing stem plant has become a favourite amongst aquascapers due to its ability to be grown as a compact foreground carpet, bushy midground plant, or delicate background feature depending on how it is maintained.

The plant produces slender stems lined with tiny oval leaves that create a lush, vibrant appearance. Under strong lighting and regular trimming, Pearl Weed develops dense cushions of foliage that closely resemble miniature shrubs.

Compared to Micranthemum tweediei 'Monte Carlo', Hemianthus micranthemoides grows taller and is more versatile, as it can be shaped into carpets or bushes rather than remaining strictly as a carpeting plant.

Directions

Plant individual stems into the substrate with small gaps between each stem to encourage healthy rooting and branching. Provide medium to strong lighting for compact growth, with CO₂ injection recommended for the densest carpets and bushes.

Dose a complete liquid fertiliser regularly to support rapid growth. Trim frequently to encourage side shoots and maintain the desired shape, replanting healthy cuttings to create fuller groups.
