Description
Background

Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides is a dwarf clover-like creeping plant very similar to H. tripartita, but with smaller and rounder leaves, much slower growing. It has slightly darker green leaves in comparison and much more easily manageable due to the slower growth rate.

In aquariums, it forms attractive networks of creeping stems that spread across the substrate, creating a natural and slightly wild appearance. It can be used as a foreground carpet, midground accent, or even allowed to climb over wood and rocks. Under strong lighting and stable CO₂, it develops tighter growth and smaller leaves, while lower-tech conditions tend to produce taller, looser growth.

Directions

Separate the plant into small clumps and plant them into the substrate or attach it to hardscape with string. It spreads via runners across the substrate and water column. Usage of CO₂ and higher lighting will encourage faster growth and a more compact carpet.

Frequent trimming will prevent overgrowth and promote side shoots. The plant has a tendency to grow long runners which can be cut back to promote bushier growth.
