Description
Background

Hydrocotyle Verticillata, also known as the umbrella marsh pennywort, is an aquatic plant native to the Americas. Its distinctive umbrella-like leaf shape sets it apart from most aquarium plants. With the right care, it spreads across the substrate to form unique clusters or carpets.

This species is particularly popular among aquascapers looking for unconventional designs. Works best as a foreground or accent plant where its leaves add visual interest and contrast. It is perfect for Nature-style and creative layouts, where it brings an unusual texture. It does not need to be buried in a substrate.

Directions

Separate the plant into small clumps and plant them into the substrate or attach it to hardscape with string. It spreads via runners across the substrate and water column. Usage of CO₂ and higher lighting will encourage faster growth and a more compact carpet.

Frequent trimming will prevent overgrowth and promote side shoots. The plant has a tendency to grow long runners which can be cut back to promote bushier growth.
