Description
Background

Hygrophila odora is a robust and attractive stem plant known for its large, bright green leaves that resemble the fronds of a fern. It is often compared to Hygrophila difformis, but H. odora typically develops broader leaves. It grows quickly under a wide range of conditions and is very forgiving, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced aquarists.

Low to medium lighting is sufficient, though stronger light will encourage denser growth. CO₂ is not required but will significantly improve plant form and growth rate. Regular trimming promotes bushier growth and easy propagation from cuttings. Hygrophila odora works well in the midground, and is great for creating textures and focal points in the aquarium.

Directions

Plant into the substrate and ensured roots are fully buried. This plant will grow an extensive root network once established. It can tolerate some shading, and is flexible in terms of placement. A steady source of light and nutrients will be sufficient to grow it well.

To propagate, two methods are available. Either cut healthy branches from mother plant and replant cuttings into substrate, or wait for a new plant to branch off mother plant, and then remove.
