Description

Lava rock aquarium hardscape is the most common and versatile rock in the hobby. It is a lightweight, porous volcanic stone great for adding texture and natural structure to aquascapes. Its dark tones create strong contrast against plants while keeping a raw, natural look. It is easy to stack and shape into caves or elevated layouts, making it ideal for both beginners and advanced scapers. Furthermore, due to the rugged surface, it supports excellent beneficial bacteria growth, improving biological filtration.

Directions

1. Rinse Thoroughly

Before placing rock in your tank, rinse each piece under running water.

  • Scrub gently with a brush to remove dust and loose particles.
  • Avoid using soap or chemicals.

2. Arrange Your Hardscape

Place rock in direction position within tank securely.

  • This ensures rocks do not shift or collapse as plants and livestock move around.
  • Ideal for building stable slopes, cliffs, or cave structures.
  • Use several medium pieces instead of one huge rock for more natural composition and easier stability.

3. Secure Pieces if Stacking

If building height or caves:

  • Use aquarium-safe super glue gel.
  • Add small stabilising stones underneath for support.
  • Fill gaps with smaller rubble for a natural look.
