Description
Background

Microsorum pteropus 'Trident', more commonly called Trident Fern, is a cultivated form of the classic Southeast Asian Java Fern. Unlike the standard variety, 'Trident' develops narrow, split leaves with multiple tips, giving it a flowing appearance. This makes it especially attractive for Nature and jungle aquascapes, where it brings texture and natural complexity. Like all Java Ferns, it thrives in low-tech setups, tolerates a wide range of conditions, and grows best when attached to hardscape rather than buried in substrate.

Trident fern creates a soft, flowing texture that contrasts beautifully with broad-leaved species and carpeting plants. It is especially valued in Nature-style aquascapes for enhancing depth, movement, and a natural “wild” aesthetic.

Directions

Attach the plant to hardscape such as driftwood or rocks, allowing the rhizome to be exposed to flowing water. This plant is well-suited for low-light set ups and does not mind being shaded by other plants. To propagate, cut the rhizome with at least three leaves and reattach it to hardscape. Plantlets might form on the older or dying leaves. They can be plucked and replanted when they mature.
