Description
Background

Microsorum pteropus ‘Windeløv’, commonly known as Windelov Java Fern, is a unique cultivated variety with finely branched, lace-like leaf tips. It is exceptional hardiness and easy to care for, making it one of the most popular epiphytes in the aquarium hobby. The plant produces elongated green leaves with intricate forked and feathered tips. Windelov grows from a creeping rhizome and should not be planted directly into the substrate.

This variety thrives in a wide range of water conditions and does not require high lighting, specialised fertilisation, or CO₂ injection. Its ability to tolerate lower light levels makes it particularly useful for shaded areas beneath hardscape or taller plants.

Directions

Attach the plant to hardscape such as driftwood or rocks, allowing the rhizome to be exposed to flowing water. This plant is well-suited for low-light set ups and does not mind being shaded by other plants.

To propagate, cut the rhizome with at least three leaves and reattach it to hardscape. Plantlets might form on the older or dying leaves. They can be plucked and replanted when they mature.
