Description
Background

Myriophyllum mattogrossense is a bright green stem plant from South America with finely divided, feathery leaves arranged in whorls. With sufficient light, these spread into open fans around each stem. It grows quickly, branches readily and can reach around 30-60 cm, making it useful for creating full background groups or a regularly trimmed midground bush.

Compared with Myriophyllum ‘Golden’, the green form is generally more robust and forgiving, while retaining a similar delicate texture. Its fresh green colour contrasts well with red stems, and its finely divided foliage provides a clear difference in leaf shape beside broader plants such as Hygrophila corymbosa or Ludwigia repens.

Provide at least moderate lighting and regular dosing with a complete aquarium fertiliser to keep pace with its rapid growth. Injected CO₂ is optional but promotes faster growth and larger, fuller leaf whorls. Maintain good circulation to keep debris from settling among the fine leaves. Trim established stems regularly to encourage branching, thin crowded growth so light reaches the lower foliage, and replant healthy tops when older stems become bare.

Directions

Plant the stems closely with sufficient space between stems. This plant can tolerate slight overcrowding, therefore it can be planted closer for a bushier effect. Although this plant can be grown in non-CO₂ set ups, strong light, stable CO₂, and adequate nutrients will bring out the best form and growth of this plant. Cut healthy tops and replant, and lower nodes will sprout side shoots. This plant require frequent trimmings due to its fast growth rate.
