Description
Background

Nymphoides Flaccida is a new lotus to the hobby that has only been introduced for a few years. Unlike many Nymphoides species, its underwater leaves are elongated and ribbon-like rather than round, giving it a soft, flowing appearance. The light green, delicate leaf rosettes grow to around 20–40 cm tall in aquariums and emerge from a short, thin rhizome, making the plant suitable for midground or background placement.

It is comparatively easy to care for, thriving in soft to medium-hard water at temperatures of 20–28 °C, with moderate to strong lighting and added CO₂ recommended for best results. It grows at a moderate pace and is not overly sensitive to lower nutrient levels.

Directions

Plant directly into nutrient rich substrate. Brighter light and CO₂ will enhance its growth. A complete supply of macro and micronutrients via the substrate and/or the water column ensures good growth, but in our experience it is not very sensitive to low nutrient levels. Root tabs and good fertilisation however, will support faster growth of plant.

Propagation occurs through unique adventitious plantlets that form on long shoots, which can be cut and replanted once roots develop.
