Description
Background

Rotala rotundifolia ‘Blood Red SG’ is a fast-growing stem plant and a long-time favourite in planted aquariums. It is the SG or Singapore variant of Blood Red and is redder than the standard variant even without very low nitrate levels. When conditions are stable, it develops crimson red colours throughout the plant, and creates an amazing background.

Adaptable and tolerant of a wide range of water parameters, it is suitable for beginners and experienced aquascapers alike. The plant can grow well without CO₂ after an acclimatisation period, but stronger lighting and CO₂ injection will greatly improve density and red colouration.

Directions

Plant the stems closely in substrate to create a bushy effect while allowing the plant to grow without shading each other. High light, rich and stable nutrients and CO₂ will enhance its deep red tones.

Cut healthy tops and replant, and lower nodes will sprout side shoots. Cutting will also promote more vigorous growth.
