Description
Background

Staurogyne sp. Purple is a rare and eye-catching aquarium plant known for its deep green to purple leaves and compact growth. It is best suited to foreground placement, where it stays low and creeps along the substrate. Popular amongst collectors and aquascapers looking for a contrast to typical green plants.

Similar to its cousin Staurogyne Repens, it does not need to be buried in a substrate to grow, and can be treated as an epiphyte plant, and attached to hardscape. It will creep along and take the form of the object it is growing on.

Directions

Plant the stems closely, leaving enough space for growth. Moderate to high lighting is recommended to encourage stronger purple tones, and CO₂ supplementation will significantly improve growth density and overall health. While it can survive in lower-tech setups, optimal colour and form are achieved with stable fertilisation and consistent CO₂.

The plant grows relatively slowly and responds well to trimming, which promotes bushier growth and allows easy propagation by replanting cuttings. If left alone it will grow and spread like carpeting plants.
