Description
Background

Taxiphyllum ‘Flame’, commonly known as Flame Moss, is a distinctive aquarium moss that grows in an upright twisting pattern. Unlike most mosses that spread horizontally, Flame Moss grows vertically in dense spiralling shoots, creating the appearance of 'flames'.

Its vertical form makes it especially useful for adding height, texture, and movement to aquascapes without taking up excessive space. It is popular in nature aquariums, shrimp tanks, and detailed hardscape layouts where fine structure and contrast are important.

Flame Moss is hardy and adaptable, making it suitable for both beginner and experienced hobbyists. It can grow successfully in low-tech aquariums without CO₂. Like most aquarium mosses, it grows best when attached to hardscape rather than planted into substrate.

Directions

Attach to hardscape such as wood or stone using thread or aquarium-safe glue. Do not bury it in substrate. Place in areas with gentle flow to prevent debris build-up.

Low to medium lighting is sufficient, though higher light and CO2 will promote denser growth. Keep the moss moist during planting and ensure it is securely fixed in place. Trim lightly over time to maintain a compact carpet and encourage new growth.
